Philips Norelco 8240XL Speed-XL Shaver
Norelco cheapened this shaver -- don't waster your money
I wouldn't say that this shaver gave a bad shave for tte 3 years I had it. It was OK. But the longevity of the shaver leaves a lot to be desired. I just took it into a repair facility, since it would no longer hold a charge. The said:
1. This shaver has a tiny one cell battery, as opposed to two large cells that some other Norelco's have.
2. The battery is soldered into the circuit board. Hence, changing the battery means changing the circuit board.
3. The repair cost exceeds the value of the shaver.
4. Additionally, they diagnosed that my shaver had a "bad segment" in the motor. It wouldn't start, even though the button was on, but when the repair facility popped off the heads and just twisted one of the head drive shafts, it started running. I asked what caused a bad motor segment. The repair facility said, "wear, but a shaver that is only 3 years old should not have this problem."
